Minigolf... it's good enough for the Karate enthusiast and you.

Minigolf... it's good enough for the Karate enthusiast and you.

It seems as though much of what was enjoyed in the past will eventually come back into style. For today's article, we're going to examine one of the most influential films of all time; The Karate Kid.

The Karate Kid is a 1984 film starring Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue, and William Zabka. The movie tells the story of an earnest teen in a new town who learns karate in order to defend himself from some of his more viscious (and well trained) peers. Audiences fell in love with adolescent Daniel LaRusso, who must seek the help of the wise Mr. Miyagi, a peace-loving marital arts master. Miyagi's teachings center on patience and "balance", lessons we could all probably stand to learn a little from.

When he is not busy buidling his martial arts techniques, Daniel LaRusso is shown doing something else as equally as cool: playing mingolf!

Several scenes in The Karate Kid were filmed at Golf N’ Stuff in Norwalk, California which features four 18-hole mini golf courses as well as a sizeable arcade. Daniel, played by Ralph Macchio, is accompanied by his love interest in the film, Ali Mills, played by Elisabeth Shue. Notably, Miss Shue also appeared on-screen as Jennifer, Marty McFly's girlfriend, in both Back to The Future sequels. The importance of the inclusion of miniature golfing in The Karate Kid cannot be emphasized enough. What does this inclusion tell us about the sport? Indirectly, the film is telling us that minigolf is just as awesome as karate. Karate was especially huge in the 80s... as was minigolf. Both karate and minigolf can still be enjoyed today.

Additionally, some of the same lessons Daniel LaRusso learns in his martial arts journey can be applied to miniature golf. Perhaps though, that is a Chip's Clubhouse blog post for another day.

The kind of girl that dates a hero like Marty McFly or Daniel LaRusso is one who enjoys mingolf. The next time you're looking for a date idea, try minigolf with that special someone. Remember, that balance is key.... and so is minigolf.

Minigolf reviewers, A Couple of Putts, had an amazing journey to Golf N' Stuff. Along with their reviews of the course, they share memories from the film. Chek that blog post out HERE.
